About Me:
During the past several years, there has been an ongoing campaign in Ireland and globally to halt the destruction of a World Heritage site, the Hill of Tara. As of this writing, the construction of the M-3 Motorway has come to a standstill, with the recent discovery of a woodhenge the size of four football fields in Lismullen. While the discovery is investigated by archaeologists, the campaigners are diligently protesting the building of the motorway. We have included here some of the earlier news regarding the campaign, as well as more recent relevant happenings. We ask that you involve yourself at whatever level you feel most comfortable, and if you care about the antiquities of history, please know that the loss of yet another Sacred Heritage is at stake. Please, this is urgent. Forward this information to everyone you know who honors their memories.

Statement By Michael Canney, Plaintiff, Save Tara/M-3 Legal Case

It has never been my ambition to put my name forward in a legal challenge, especially a challenge against such a seemingly impregnable array of powerful political and economic forces. I have done so only as a last resort, and only because it is absolutely essential that the silent majority who oppose this road are given a final chance to have their concerns heard before the courts. While the political and commercial backers of this enterprise have seen fit to ignore public opinio… Continue

FRESH LEGAL CHALLENGE TO M-3 ANNOUNCED

The Campaign to Save Tara today announced details of a legal challenge to the proposed M3 Motorway through the Tara/Skryne Valley in Co. Meath. The Campaign claims that this case is being taken in the public interest and only after all other democratic avenues have been exhausted.

In a message of support read out at today’s launch, Seamus Heaney said, “It could be said that the Campaign to Save Tara is putting its case in ‘the name of dead generations’: for the past two…

What Price Heritage?

In Our Disposable Society, What Value Do We Place On Our Ancestors?

There is a battle ensuing in Ireland, and it has been for several years now. This is a battle not unlike that of 1793, or even more recently the Easter Rising of 1916. Born of the Republic, this battle has at its core the finest champions, whose love lies deep in the Heart Of Ireland, the Tara Complex.

The Tara Complex has a rich, ancient, and honorable history. It is where the seat of the High…

An Open Letter To Bertie Ahern Regarding the M-3 Motorway Scheme.

Dear Mr. Ahern,
With All Due Respect,

I have watched, since the Autumn of 2005, the continuing battle over the M3 motorway in the Tara/Skryne (Gabhra) Valley. I first became acquainted with the issue whilst my husband and I were on our way to the Dublin Airport the last day of our visit. It was then that we saw the “Archaeological” dig signs close by to the Hill of Tara, with “No Trespassing” written all over them. Upon our return to the U.S., I did a bit of investi…

Irish Times - Forensic M3 dig unearths Iron Age secrets

The National Roads Authority has revealed how it is excavating the controversial new national monument at Lismullen on the route of the €850 million M3 motorway.

Senior archaeologist with the National Roads Authority (NRA), Mary Deevy, admitted that so little evidence remains that "forensic archaeology" will be used to try and reveal exactly what it was used for.

The monument consists of two circular enclosures made of arcs of stake-holes and what appears to be…
