When Dick Roche, in his twilight hours as Minister for the Environment
and Heritage, signed an order for the preservation by record of the
Lismullin henge, was there some devil lurking in the detail that only
came to light when Mr Gormley availed of expert legal advice?
It would remove a lot of pressure from Mr Gormley if he would, in these
times of openness and transparency, tell us who it is that tied his
hands regarding the M3 motorway project.

Mr Gormley has the full support of Mr Marcin Libicki, chairman of the
European Petitions Committee and Vice President of that same committee,
Kathy Sinnott.

He has the support of many professionals in the field of archaeology,
along with that of artists such as Louis le Brocquy, his wife, Anne
Madden, and Robert Ballagh. Liam O Maonlai of the Hothouse Flowers,
Stuart Townsend and no doubt many more will join in support of our
Minister should he take the risk and call a halt to work on the M3
motorway. He already has over 70pc of the Irish people's support as
shown in polls.
